Jeff Koons’ and Michelangelo’s work, goes head-to-head in Florence
Koons's modern artwork will be displayed next to the classic Michelangelo’s piece
The Piazza della Signoria, in Florence, Italy, it’s preparing to receive another illustrious guest. This time “Pluto and Proserpina” (2011-2013), Jeff Koons, will join the replica of “David” by Michelangelo and other Renaissance sculptures in the famous outdoor art gallery.
The 11ft work in gold-colored stainless steel sculpture will be display in front of the Palazzo Vecchio, town hall and civic museum, between September, 25th to December, 28th, the period coincides with the 29th Biennale Internazionale dell'Antiquariato. Inside the building, Koons’s Gazing Ball (Barberini Faun) (2013), will be presented in the Hall of Lilies, where the original bronze sculpture "Judith and Holofernes" by Donatello, is on permanent display.
Other foreseen exhibition will take place from June 14th, 2016 to January 8th, 2017 at the Galleia dell'Accademia, the house of the original David (1501-04). In this show the public will be able to see works by Michelangelo and other old masters with ten contemporary artists, between them the proper Koons, Marina Abramovic, Cai Guo-Qiang, Maurizio Cattelan, Damien Hirst, Yayoi Kusama, Bruce Nauman, Richard Prince, Gerhard Richter and Cindy Sherman.
Oceana Bal Harbour
For those who are unable to visit “Pluto and Proserpina” at Piazza della Signoria, do not worry, the unique artwork has an official house at Oceana Bal Harbour, an ultra-luxury condominium scheduled to be completed in 2016.
“Pluto and Proserpina will be enjoyed by millions of people at first-class museums around the world, only to come back home to the Oceana Bal Harbour residents who will get to call it their own,” said Costantini, the founder of Argentina-based real estate development company Consultatio.
